Since the start of the pandemic, IT teams around the world have worked tirelessly to adjust operations for remote access to IT resources. At Sassafras, our entire 2020 development pipeline was put on hold while we responded to time-sensitive requests for new and enhanced functionality, like remote access, SSO integrations, and a unique request from from one of our best customers for help making sure usage within eLumin’s virtual computing environment gets included in Sassafras’ powerful usage reports.
eLumin’s Virtual Desktop offering allows colleges and universities to quickly and easily deploy computer labs in the cloud. It’s a great solution for higher-ed institutions operating remotely, and Sassafras LabSight is the perfect complement, allowing administrators to track login times, software usage, and other key metrics, ensuring VDI resources are being used as expected. While Sassafras and eLumin support teams worked through this customer’s technical challenge, it became clear that the two companies had a lot in common.
Dennis Tilford describes his experience working with Sassafras and eLumin at Cal Poly Pomona: “Because of COVID-19 Cal Poly Pomona went to a Virtual Classroom environment for the 2020-2021 Fall Semester. Cal Poly Pomona selected eLumin to build the Virtual Desktop environment, To better understand how Cal Poly Pomona’s students were utilizing the new virtual environment I would use Sassafras KeyServer to measure program utilization, but my management wanted more information like who was logging in, what lab was being used etc. The extremely responsive and professional teams from Sassafras and eLumin were able to provide the tools for Cal Poly Pomona to run the needed reports. I can now run reports to monitor user logins, track and monitor what programs and stacks are being used and for how long.”
